Sumary
Along the line of a broad research on presidential institution in Argentina, geographic origins of presidents between 1916 and 2011 are identified, and effects of development standards of birthplaces of presidential candidates on their chances to reach presidency and their attitudes towards representative democracy in the studied period are analyzed. Candidates coming from small cities had the best chances to reach presidency; those coming from rural areas or villages were the most left out. The enhancement of representative democracy increased chances for candidates coming from the largest cities. Antidemocratic sympathyes prevailed among candidates coming from rural areas, villages and small cities; leaning to representative democracy prevailed among those coming from largest cities. Each institutional scenario of this period seems to generate it’s own emergent. |
