Our Goals

The Observatory on International Humanitarian Law was created to further the general aim of developing academic, research and technical assistance activities on International Humanitarian Law.
For the fulfilment of its main goal, the Observatory will develop the following specific objectives:

  • To contribute and promote the dissemination, training, teaching and researching on International Humanitarian Law, prioritizing the School of Law of the UBA, but also in other national and international Universities and Centres for Studies;
  • To foster reflection on current issues concerning the application of International Humanitarian Law;
  • To collaborate in the preparation of the teams representing the School of Law of the UBA in competitions on International Humanitarian Law or including contents thereof;
  • To provide technical knowledge for the elaboration of legal opinions on International Humanitarian Law as required by the authorities of the School of Law of the UBA or of the State, as well as by other national and foreign institutions;
  • Establish relations and cooperate with public and private entities whose aims are related to the goal of the Observatory, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) –promoter and guardian of International Humanitarian Law– in order to facilitate the development of dissemination and curricular integration activities on International Humanitarian Law at Universities and Centres for Studies in Argentina, and to allow the development of skills of the Observatory as a space for reflection, so these organizations and other entities of civil society can benefit from their opinions and research.
